
Ryan White Comprehensive Case Management Quarterly Training — Best Practices: Understanding the Importance of Building Healthy Support Systems while Thriving with HIV

This training is a requirement for, and open to, DC Ryan White Case Managers.
Social connection and support are vital to the health and well being of people living with HIV, yet many experience isolation or lack awareness of available resources. This training will explore the different types of support and highlight the unique benefits of peer support. Participants will learn how to identify and refer individuals to relevant support services, while fostering empowerment and personal growth. The session will also offer strategies to help individuals take an active role in managing their health.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the differences between formal and informal support systems
- Describe the unique benefits of peer support for people living with HIV
- Identify and refer individuals to appropriate clinic-based support services, peer networks, and online support groups.
- Explore strategies to support individuals in transitioning from a passive to an active role in their health management by connecting them with peers
- Cultivate a sense of community for people living with HIV to reduce loneliness, combat isolation, and strengthen social connectedness.
