This module is addressing the aging population of people living with HIV in the Ryan White community with a look at Washington DC. In the presentation, you will note aging, older than 50, and older than 55 are used interchangeably. In some cases that data looked at populations over 55.

Housing Discrimination and HIV: Fair Housing Rights and Responsibilities

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings and in other housing-related activities based on disability, among other protected classes. Generally, the Fair Housing Act applies to a broad range of persons and entities, including public housing agencies, property owners, landlords, housing managers, real estate agents, brokerage service agencies, and banks. This webinar will discuss Fair Housing Laws and Regulations as they apply to people living with disabilities and describe reasonable accommodations and modifications.  This training will also identify resources available in the Washington D.C. area for people living with disabilities who are experiencing housing discrimination.

Strategic Planning to Enhance Sustainability

To meet the aspirations of the REIS HI-V model, strategic planning that integrates REIS goals with our organizational goals is imperative to its success. This session will look at where you are with strategic planning as an organization and how to ensure that the REIS goals are integrated into your work. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring those with lived experience are integrated into the planning process.

Motivational Interviewing to Improve Health Outcomes

Motivational interviewing (MI) is guided by a series of principles that emphasize a collaborative relationship in which the autonomy of the client is respected and the client’s intrinsic resources for change are elicited by the facilitator. Within MI, the facilitator adopts a non-confrontational approach to guide the client toward change. This webinar will provide an overview of motivational interviewing, the principles behind this technique, and the barriers that clients may face during the process of change.

Social Support: Showing Up for Your Person

This module covers how individuals can best support their loved ones who have tested positive for HIV. It discusses both tangible and intangible forms of support that can be offered and examines the social determinants of health and challenges to accessing care that those living with HIV face on a daily basis. Providers will learn how to support and guide family and friends on offering support to their loved one as they navigate the HIV care structure and a life with HIV.
